Old Friends

An old friend was in town, and I was able to slip away from life for awhile and have lunch with her. I had seen her at the high school reunion last October, but I really didn’t get a chance to sit down and talk to her really. She was with her boyfriend, I was with my husband, and then there were other people at the table. It really is hard to talk to just one person at those kind of things, plus we were pre-occupied with the arrival of “Lewis”, aka: Lisa, who never showed up; or did she/he?

During lunch we gave our own updates of what are lives have been during the past 20+ years. I learned that we have had a few common things happen to us; including two really awful 1st husbands. I also discovered that she too had left a child alone with hubby #1 when child decided to do a “Poo Poo Picasso”. And I thought I was the only one! Wonderful! Some men should not be fathers. However, she is very happy with current boyfriend, who is nothing like hubby #1, and I too was overjoyed to disclose that hubby #2 is also nothing like my hubby #1, so I am happy to say that we are both very happy with our current men. This is a good thing!

I also caught up with another old friend from junior college recently. The Google search engine is a very marvelous thing. I typed in her name (she is Peruvian and her name is a little different) at Google, and, voila! I found a matching email address! Sure enough, a few days later, there was an email from one of my old bridesmaids, Eveling, who is currently married and living very happily in Switzerland with her new husband Daniel. I doubt that I will be traveling to Switzerland anytime soon to meet her for lunch, but at least we can keep in touch via email. She is going to send me pictures of her wedding. She finally decided that she was sick of the New York and Switzerland commute, so she made the big leap that she always was afraid of and got married finally. I remember her telling me how hard it was being a child of an arranged marriage. I guess being in Switzerland, faraway from Peru is the best place for her to be---she has a real high profile job to boot. I guess quitting business college and transferring to Stanford University was a good career move!

Now, if only I could find Linda Van Loon?!
