Not my bag!
10:16 a.m. 2005-02-09

I swear sometimes, if my head weren’t attached to my body, I would lose it. I hate forgetting important things or events, especially when it comes to missing keys, or where did I put my purse? I totally get out of sync, and I don’t like that. I don’t like walking without a purse either. I just feel, NAKED. What do you do with your hands if your not carrying some type of handbag or purse? Do you cross your arms, or do you hide your hands in pockets? What if you don’t have pockets? Do you swing your arms around, or what?

Men have it easy—they don’t carry purses with them (well most of them don’t). A handbag, purse, backpack is like a safety security blanket for me—I need to hold something when I walk down the street. I feel incomplete without my purse. I know it sounds strange, but I think most women can understand what I’m saying. When I was a small child, I had a blanket that was later replaced by a toy purse and then a pink Barbie lunch box. As I grew older, I got a handbag and a backpack, which I used, everyday to school. It was then in high school, it was socially expected of me to start carrying a purse to match my shoes. It’s a vicious cycle that force women to be more dependent on their purses. Where else are they supposed to put their necessities of life, like coin purse, credit cards, drivers’ license, hygienic supplies, makeup..etc.. You simply cannot fit all of that all in a back pant pocket! (Unless you wore men’s pants and didn’t care if you had a huge bulgy butt). I think women carry a bit of their lives in their purse or handbag. Am I right, or am I wrong? So, if I lose my purse, in a way I’ve lost part of my life cycle, and I’m totally out of sync. Don’t even try to talk to me when this happens.

I am seriously considering getting myself a backpack. If I got a backpack, I would not confuse myself when I have the baby bag with me. Maybe I should get a bright colored baby bag so I won’t confuse it to my purse. My bag and the baby bag are both black—I need some color! I usually don’t change purses unless the purse I use falls apart. The thought of changing bags and moving its contents to another frightens me really. Do I sound just a tad stressed to you? Maybe all I really need is a vacation, or a really nice long walk somewhere far away on a beach where purses can be replaced by a beach towel.
