I'm sick of the Mall...
3:41 p.m. 2005-05-25

Oh my God... I've been to the mall for what seems months looking for shoes that match my daughter's prom dresses! Yes, not just one dress...but two.

First, she spied a polka dot dress that she insisted that grandma could fix. Of course, grandma can't fix it without totally re-making the darn thing, so she decided on wearing the one from last year to her current high school because no one would recognize it there because she wore that dress when she was attending another school, and she wasn't going to take her boyfriend to her high school prom, so he wouldn't see either. Of course, we had to buy a shawl anyway with matching earrings and necklace because the back of her black dress was open back. We also found a new pair of black shoes, which subsequently in the end, she did not wear to the prom anyway, because it was soon discovered that the shoes were missing straps. Of course, she didn't notice it before, but I guess it should be expected when you go to Ross and find a "cute pair" for only $9.99. So, she ended up wearing another pair black shoes that she found in the closet that were "hiding" before.

We won't even go with the hair. My daughter has beautiful, natural curly hair; the kind of hair I always dreamed of having when I was her age. What does Lizzy do? She straightens her hair, and then attempts to curl it again with a curling iron. I don't get it. "No mom, you are doing it wrong!" I am now expected to use a curling iron. I have straight long hair that is usually kept in a pony tail. I have no time to even blow dry my hair let alone use a curling iron. Let's just say, the look Lizzy was trying to accomplish, didn't happen; but she looked fine anyway.

After the prom at her school, she confessed to me that she felt so out of it at her prom, because she came in a black dress and everyone had colored dresses, and how she wished she had a colorful dress to wear to her boyfriend's prom. Okay, what is a mother to do?! So, we headed back to Macy's and wouldn't you know..there was a pretty white dress, with gold and silver stitching, in her size, just waiting there for Lizzy. I had to get it, but back to the shoes: she needed a pair of SILVER ones to go with her dress, and of course since it was open back, she needed a silver shawl...

"Mom, I still have the tags for the jewlery we bought for the black dress. Do you think they will let me exchange it?"

Prom is Saturday and I so can't wait until it's over!
