We Want A Contract...When do we want it? NOW! 4:19 p.m. 2005-09-13 Some people should just keep their mouth’s shut when they don’t know what the hell they are talking about. It would make life so much damn easier to live. I work for a county office, and like every year, our contract has expired, and our Union is trying to negotiate a new one with the very OVER PAID board of supervisors. The drama continues, yet again with rumors of walkouts and strikes… Oh brother. I’ve worked here for over 17 years (isn’t that pathetic, really—17 years in a county secretarial job?) and we have only had a ONE strike in that entire time. I know co-workers that have worked here for over 30 years, and they have only seen ONE strike. When we did strike a few years ago, it was a total of THREE days. Wow. Now, I am in no way saying that I don’t appreciate my job. I love my boring job; believe me. BUT, when I hear some Pro Union idiot threatening another person who is on probation status; “If you don’t strike with us, you are going to have a difficult time with your co-workers.” it makes me mad!! First of all, I don’t blame the person who was given this threat to me nervous. This person is NEW, and of course she will believe anything that is told to her. If she does strike, management could fire her. Would they? Probably not, but they could if they wanted to. Honestly though, what will her “co-workers” do to her if she decided not to strike? Slash her tires? Throw eggs at her? Gosh people, if that was ever done to someone, I would throw down my strike sign and walk into the building with her. I don’t want to associate with that kind of politics…no way. I’m disgusted that I actually work with someone who would hand out a threat like that. You can say I know nothing about Union politics, but honestly, this isn’t BIG BROTHER. If that Yvette wins, I swear I AM going to spit…she is so ANNOYING. |
